Duporth Bay

Oil painting Commission
18/01/2016
In November 2015 I was approached by a customer who had fallen in love with and had purchased a large oil painting of mine titled "Gwithian Surfer's" from Winifred and Mabel gift shop in Wadebridge, where I exhibit my art.
The customer explained how the sandy beige tones and aqua sea complemented her new build home just perfectly.

I was soon able to visit this home to discuss a commission of their stunning beach view of Duporth Bay. I can only describe this house as a "grand designs" style home. It is stunning. Glass walls, beautiful oak beams, with the most gorgeous modern mod cons. I have to say "proud as punch" is an understatement! I was grinning from ear to ear! An artist's dream, well dream job for me anyway.

I couldn't wait to get started, and it wasn't long before I visited again to meet with the customers to discuss the view and how they and I envisioned it on canvas. I later returned again with a large sketch in hand of a triptych layout across three canvases and my camera. We went for a walk along the lovely stretch of beach. I find this is the best way to get a really good feel about the environment and talk about what it is the customer loves.
For these customer's it was all about the aqua blues and turquoise colours in the sea, the gentle shore line and sandy tones in the cliffs. The 'tooth' which you can see in the middle canvas is also a favourite part of this view for them both and the distant bays.

I have a young family and had other work coming in at this time, as it was a busy time of year with christmas fast approaching. It was a little bit of a juggling act to work on this painting from my dining room/studio at home. However I managed to complete the three canvases and deliver them to the happy customers on friday.
I have to say I fell in love with this painting and thought I would find it hard to part with, but once I saw it in the space it was intended for I immediately felt as though it was home.

I was also able to take some photos of some other work of mine here. I am very lucky that these customers have a real love for my work and now own three original oil paintings as well as a framed print of Jeremys mackerel, placemats and coasters. You can see some photos of these and a little more of their beautiful home in my portfolio section of this site.

Thank you for reading, I am now off to finish an oil painting I am currently working on of "Rock" on the north coast of Cornwall. Photos of this piece coming soon...
